Steve McCarty
Professor, General Education Kagawa Junior College, Kagawa, Japan. Steve McCarty was born in Boston and holds an M.A. from the University of Hawaii where he specialized in Japan. He is a full Professor at Kagawa Junior College in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, where he has a wife Chisato Ishikawa and two young sons he is trying to raise bilingually. He teaches Oral English and Computer English. In the Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT), he has been a Chapter founder, President of another Chapter, Bilingualism National SIG Chair for three years, and appointed Representative of all research groups on the JALT Executive Board.

Steve researches adult Japanese-English bilingualism and biculturalism, and has found that cognitive and ethical benefits tend to accrue when such relatively contrasting languages and East-West cultures are bridged.

This June Steve is scheduled to present at the University of Hong Kong Knowledge and Discourse Conference. His theme is "The English Language Teaching Profession in Japan: Native Speakers versus Natives of the Culture." He also regularly presents in Japanese or English at national or local forums.
